Fidelio Update – In the Driving Seat en route to the Boardroom

London, 3rd March 2017 – The pace of change for corporates is extraordinary and against this backdrop Fidelio is clearly focused on building Boards and leadership teams that are fit for the future. Fidelio’s “A Seat at the Table” Programme for senior female executives and directors contributes to this goal. It enables participants to take charge of their careers to the top table, ensuring that they are firmly in the driving seat. The next programme will be held on Wednesday 6th – Thursday 7th September 2017, at Leeds Castle, Kent, UK.

Technology, business disruption, societal change and shareholder demands have raised the bar enormously for Boards. What used to be a linear route to the Boardroom is no longer straightforward. For many there is an overlap between senior Executive roles and the first external Board appointments; for others it is not simply a case of establishing a portfolio – the quality and mix of Board roles is critical.

Rather than passively allowing opportunities to materialise “A Seat at the Table“, a two-day immersive Programme, provides tools for women to navigate this critical stage of their career:

1. A Framework for understanding leadership structures and styles:

Given the pace of change, an essential attribute for Board Directors and business leaders is to stay forward–looking rather than successfully managing yesterday’s business. Drawing upon the findings of his latest publication “Stop the Rot” Professor Bob Garratt, Visiting Professor, Cass Business School, will explore with participants the behaviours and outlook critical for ensuring a healthy corporate future.

A Seat at the Table” reviews different leadership frameworks for the Boardroom, as well as different types of Boards. We are delighted to be joined for the first time by the Chairman of a leading arts organisation. With Dr Harry Brünjes, Chairman, English National Opera, participants will explore resilience in leadership, what a Chairman of a leading arts Board requires from fellow Board Members and importantly how this type of Board role sits within a Board career and a Board portfolio.  Understanding frameworks of leadership enables participants to take more informed decisions about Board opportunities.

2. A Mirror for Personal Presence en route to the Boardroom:
Achieving Executive or Non-Executive Board roles typically involves a formal selection process. Success is frequently predicated upon clarity of proposition and “A Seat at the Table” once again welcomes Rod Chamberlain, Financial Services Non-Executive Director and CEO Mentor, who will explore with participants what are their distinguishing strengths and achievements and how best to capture these in profiles be they online, on paper or verbal.

The selection process is not confined to formal interviews and once again Chris Heimann, Spacecraft Ltd and Head of Improvisation, RADA, will work with participants on presence and authority in informal settings, as well as around the Boardroom table.  A confident and self-assured demeanour combined with empathy and awareness creates opportunities for female Directors and enables them to be on the front foot in their own career.

3. A Road Map of critical networks and milestones, in order to achieve professional and personal objectives
As well as insight into governance, leadership and presence, the “A Seat at the Table”  programme equips attendees with the tools to build a personal road map of critical networks and milestones. We consider different types of Board roles, and the practicalities of time commitment and work life balance. Contributors will share their own route to the Boardroom, and provide valuable insight into the networks that matter and how to leverage them.

Ann Francke, CEO, Chartered Management Institute reflects on her own C-suite career within global FMCG companies and explores the decision-making and trade-offs that women frequently face. We will also be joined by Anne de Kerckhove, CEO, Iron Capital; Non-Executive Director, 7digital Group, who will demonstrate the very different career map of the technology sector, as well as the importance of technology in underpinning networks and crafting a compelling and authentic personal presence online.

Determining the road map, setting the milestones and establishing a supportive and effective network all underpin a successful and rewarding career at the top table.

Boardrooms will be enhanced by talented and committed women who are making informed decisions about this critical stage of their career. “A Seat at the Table” provides key tools and skills which enable women to define their personal road map and milestones.
