Fidelio Update – Board Readiness and Geo-Political Uncertainty – "A Seat at the Table"

London, 30th June 2016 – Fidelio’s “A Seat at the Table” programme for Senior Female Executives focusses on succeeding to the top table and at the top table. Our next Programme takes place on 13th – 14th September at Leeds Castle, UK.

Geo-political risk is currently high on the Board agenda. Fidelio’s “A Seat at the Table” programme previously debated the role of the Board in the run up to the UK Referendum; in September we will explore how to navigate the resulting political, regulatory and economic uncertainty and what it means to sit at the Top Table in the Referendum aftermath.

To guide us through the Board’s role in navigating geo-political risk, we will be joined in September by Sir Richard Shirreff, former Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, NATO. Following a distinguished career in the British Army, with leadership roles across several major theatres of war, Richard served as Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, NATO from 2011 to 2014. Richard brings first-hand experience of the tectonic geo-political plates that are shifting and which represent major threats, as well as opportunities, for business.

Developing the theme of Boards and crisis, we will also be joined by David Pearl, former Deputy Company Secretary, BP, who brings insights from one of the largest corporate crises this century, Deepwater Horizon. Through case studies based on first-hand experience, “A Seat at the Table” provides participants with unrivalled insight into the extraordinary pressures on Directors in times of great uncertainty.

In times of turmoil it is critically important to have the right people with the necessary skills at the Top Table, be it the Board or Executive Committee. Through A Seat at the Table, Fidelio contributes to ensuring robust and diverse leadership teams and developing the female CEOs and Chairmen of tomorrow.

To achieve this, we focus on five attributes of leadership which are critical to success at the Top Table:

1. Understanding the complexity of stakeholder and shareholder expectations for the leadership team

2. A firm grasp of governance, including formal and informal power structures

3. Presence and authority; personal impact; the ability to influence

4. Reinforcing networks; networks of support and networks of reciprocity

5. Resilience under extreme pressure
