"Accessing Capital – The Competitive Edge" Panel Discussion, 7th November 2013

Fidelio Partners, the Board Development and Executive Search consultancy, and FTI Consulting hosted a panel discussion on “Accessing capital – the competitive edge”.

The panel discussion followed the report published by Fidelio Partners, April 2013, on ‘Accessing Capital – What the CFO needs. Profile, Skill Sets and Resources’.  Reflecting Fidelio’s Executive Search expertise in senior Finance roles, particularly those with a capital markets interface, this  report is based on interviews with leading CFOs from major UK and Continental European corporates looking at what the CFO needs to access capital today and how that will change over the next 5 years. The panel discussion explored how leading corporates are responding to changes in the global investor base and shifting pools of capital. The discussion included:

  • The role of the CFO, Treasurer, Strategy and IR Director in accessing capital
  • How corporates are building up their in-house capital market capability
  • The Board’s role in accessing capital
  • The renaissance of the independent advisor
  • Looking ahead for the next 5 years

The panel discussion was moderated by Gillian Karran-Cumberlege, Partner of Fidelio Partners, and author of the report. The panellists were:

  • Stephen Jones,  Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, Santander UK
  • Ian Firth, Group Treasurer, TSB
  • Fergus MacLeod, former Head of Group Strategy and Planning, former Head of Investor Relations, BP (2002 – 2013)
